Prologue (Kiara)
The fan signing event was buzzing with energy as fans lined up, excitedly waiting for their turn. Mia was practically bouncing beside me, clutching Jaxon Klein’s jacket like it was a prized possession. I had no idea how she had gotten so attached to it in such a short time, but there was no arguing with my Nani Pari.
(Little Fairy)
After Rachel Didi and JB passed away, Mia became my responsibility in an instant. From that moment on, all I wanted was to shower her with love, to give her everything she could ever need or want—because she deserves nothing less. If spoiling her can bring even the smallest spark of joy back into her life, then I’ll do it a thousand times over.
I took a deep breath as we approached the table. My heart was hammering for absolutely no reason. It was ridiculous. He was just a singer. A world-famous, insanely attractive, ridiculously charming singer—but still, just a singer. Yeah, just Singer Kiara.
Snap out of it. It was just an eye contact.
Just an eye contact?
Forget it. We came near him.
“Hi?” I greeted, hoping my voice sounded more composed than I felt.
The moment he looked up, my stomach flipped. His Black eyes locked onto mine, darkening slightly as if he had been searching for me. The intensity of his gaze was almost too much to bear. My skin prickled under the weight of it. For a second, he didn’t say anything, just stared at me, lost in thought.
Why is he looking at me like that?
Have I seen him somewhere?
“I hope we are not late for the fan signing,” I said, trying to sound as professional as possible, ignoring the way my pulse quickened.
That seemed to snap him out of his trance. He ran a hand through his hair, almost nervously.
“Oh hi! No! You are not late. You're just in time. We still have an hour for the fan signing.”
His voice—deep, smooth, slightly rushed—sent an involuntary shiver down my spine. Was he… nervous? That was unexpected.
Itni darawani hoon kya?
(Am I that Intimidating?)
“Oh, cool!” I smiled, turning to Mia. “Baby, look, your favorite singer is right in front of you. Won’t you say hi?”
Mia gripped my hand, suddenly shy. It wasn’t like her at all. She was usually an unstoppable force of energy. It was cute. My Cute Little Fairy.
Jaxon crouched slightly to her level, smiling warmly. “Hello, little one. What’s your name?”
“My name is Mia. Mia Marshall.” She spoke softly but confidently, and my heart swelled with love for her.
“Nice to meet you, Mia. You are really beautiful.” He shook her tiny hand, making her giggle.
Then, her tiny finger pointed toward me. “This is my Kiki.”
Jaxon’s eyes flicked back to mine, and I felt the air shift between us. He looked at me like he was committing every detail to memory.
“Hi, I’m Kiara Marshall. Mia’s Auntie, but she loves calling me Kiki.” I extended my hand, and the moment his fingers wrapped around mine, a jolt of something electric shot up my arm.
I pulled back quickly, hoping he hadn’t noticed the way my breath hitched. But the flicker of amusement in his eyes told me he had.
“Nice to meet you, Ms. Marshall,” he murmured, his voice lower, almost intimate.
Why does he have to say my name like that?
Mia handed him the card and basket of cookies we had made together. “This is for you, Sir.”
His entire face lit up as he took the gifts. “Thank you so much, Mia. But you don’t have to call me Sir. Call me Jax just like everyone does.”
“Okay, Jax.” She giggled.
I should have been focusing on the moment, on Mia’s happiness, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that Jaxon Klein was looking at me like I was the only person in the room. Like he was… fascinated. And it made my stomach tighten in ways I didn’t want to acknowledge.
“Jax? Can I ask you a question?”
Mia’s next words, however, nearly made me pass out on the spot.
“You can ask me two questions, sweetheart.” He grinned and ruffled her hair.
“Will you go on a date with me?”
I choked. Literally choked on air.
Shaitan ki Amma hai yeh larki.
(She is Devil’s Mother for sure)
Mia’s cheeks were red, and she looked so adorably hopeful that I wanted to disappear.
“Mia, we don’t ask such questions,” I scolded gently, my voice coming out higher than usual. “I am really sorry, Mr. Klein.”
“It’s fine, Ms. Marshall.” He shot me a glance, wordlessly telling me not to be too hard on her. Then, he turned back to Mia with a soft smile. “I would love to go on a date with you, Mia, but I’m too old for you, and you’d get bored.”
“Oh yeah, you are right.”
Mia pouted before an idea visibly struck her. “I have an idea.”
I did not like that look on her face.
“And what is it?” Jaxon played along, completely unaware of the impending disaster.
“Why don’t you date my Kiki?” she said bluntly.
I swore my soul left my body.
Wrong, Shaitan ki Amma nahi, Shaitan ki Nani Amma hai yeh larki.
(Wrong, this girl is Devil’s Grandmother.)
I had no idea what to do, how to react. My brain had officially stopped functioning.
“She is single, independent, and extremely beautiful. You two would make a really hot couple,” Mia continued, oblivious to my mortification.
“MIA!” I gasped. My entire face was burning. “I am really sorry about it, Sir. I really don’t know where all of this is coming from. I will definitely explain that to her—"
“I would love to date your Kiki.”
His voice cut through my panic like a blade.
What?
I snapped my head toward him, my eyes wide in disbelief.
Mia squealed. “Really?”
“Yes,” Jaxon said smoothly, his gaze locking onto mine with an intensity that made my breath hitch. “I don’t deny my fans’ wishes, Ms. Marshall.”
I couldn’t form a coherent thought. The way he was looking at me—confident, sure, like he had already made up his mind—had my heart slamming against my ribs.
“Mr. Klein, you don’t actually have to do that,” I managed to say, my voice weaker than I would have liked. “I will explain this to Mia—”
“Ms. Marshall, I mean it.” His voice was firm, unwavering. “Meet me backstage in a while. There are people waiting for me right now, but we will definitely talk about it. See you soon, Goddess.”
I could only nod, still too stunned to form a response.
Wait, did he call me Goddess? No, no, he didn’t. I brushed off that thought.
As Mia and I walked away, my heart was in complete chaos.
Jaxon Klein—one of the most famous men in the world—the Playboy of Music Industry, wanted to go on a date with me. That's also because an 8-years-old girl requested him.
What the hell just happened?
